A Prayer of Forgiveness for the Wounded Heart

Hello, dear readers!

Today, I’m excited to share some words of encouragement with you over at Proverbs 31 Ministries. You can check out the devotion HERE!

As part of this devotion, I want to offer you a new free resource, “A Prayer of Forgiveness for the Wounded Heart.”

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you, extending forgiveness can feel like a hard, hard business. If we’re not careful, bitterness builds up to toxic levels, hardening our hearts and rendering us joyless.

But God wants so much more for you, sweet friend! That’s why I’m so thankful we serve a compassionate God who knows how we struggle to extend forgiveness. He always stands willing to help us forgive our offenders … and He alone has the power to heal our wounded hearts.

If you’re struggling to forgive the harm that’s been done to you by another, I’ve created a prayer you can pray over your heart. And it’s full of scripture references you can look up for further study.

A Prayer of Forgiveness for the Wounded Heart

I hope this prayer brings healing and peace to your heart, dear one. Today, may you begin walking in the freedom of forgiveness!

With Grace,

Hoping this will help as I have a whole lot of bitterness & resentments…hanging on to more than that 10% even though I know it only physically hurts me?!
“To forgive is to set the prisoner free, & realize the prisoner was me”.

    • Saying a prayer for you, Kelly! Our enemy wants us to hang on to bitterness, knowing what a poison it is to us. Asking God to strengthen and comfort your heart!

Enjoyed your devotional very much this morning. Looking forward to reading your prayer. Thank you.

  • Brenda says:

This morning I decided to begin asking God each morning to guide me through just this day…to show me what he wanted me to do and to say, and to do it willingly.
Then I read today’s devotional at Proverb’s 13. It was EXACTLY what I’ve been praying about. Dealing with my husband of almost 48 years has been difficult. He is not a happy person and has many issues but despite that, we raised 3 amazing sons who are awesome husbands and the best daddies to our 7 grandchildren.
I am patient as long as I can be and then I either blow up or break down. I forgive over and over but now I realize it has definitely not been 100%!
Thank you for your wise words….you were God’s messenger to me this morning.

    • Sweet friend, this makes my heart so happy to hear–I love how God brings us the truth we need to hear, even when it’s hard. He is so faithful! And your obedience and love in your 48 years of marriage (wow, congratulations!) do not go unnoticed by your Heavenly Father. Saying a prayer over you now! <3

  • Ronda says:

This is right on time as I’m struggling to forgive a rather deep offence. Thank you for your obedience to God.

  • Lorraine Green says:

Glad I read this as I’m struggling with a friend whom I have been hurt time and time again, she befriends me one minute then wen I let my guard down she does the same things over and over, she tried to embarrass me on our online bible study with our church, I cant take anymore from her she is evil, I hope god forgives me for saying that, it has caused anger in my heart..x

    • Lorraine, I am so sorry, friend – and I completely understand! I’ve been there too. I am saying a prayer for you now, that God will give you wisdom in how to relate to her, and will protect your heart from hurt and bitterness! <3

  • Nancy says:

How timely! I am 2 weeks in from discovering that my husband of 34 years physically and emotionally stepped outside of our marriage vows and is still in communication with this woman. I am devastated and hanging on by a thread. From the moment I found out, I knew forgiveness was something I needed to do! I’ve been trying. I printed out this devotion and have read it several times today. I also printed out the quote I found in my e-mail and taped it to my bathroom mirror. Just so sad. 🙁

    • Oh sweet friend, how I wish I could give you a big hug through this computer!! I am so very sorry for this devastating news–and I am lifting you up in prayer right now! I love how your heart is already set towards forgiveness–and I hope that you will also give yourself plenty of grace, too! It takes time and is such a process <3

  • Lola Kosub says:

I don’t want to be bitter. I’ve “forgiven “ over and over but haven’t been able to shake it. I know this isn’t the way God wants for me. I don’t want to feel like this either. Thank you for caring.

    • Lola, oh how I understand the struggle – I am giving you a big hug through the computer! Heavenly Father, I lift up Lola right now and ask that You would cover her heart with Your love and light. Thank You for her desire to live free from bitterness – I ask that You would give her the strength to let go, and flood her heart with Your peace that passes all understanding! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
